Jose Rodriguez graduated from the University of Puerto Rico in 1976 before attending the Universidad Centeral del Caribe School of Medicine. After medical school, he complete an internship and surgery residency at Long Island College Hospital and an orthopedic surgery residency at New York Medical College in the Department of Orthopedics. Dr. Rodriguez was awarded a research fellowship in orthopedic laser surgery at New York Medical College and a spine fellowship at the Texas Back Institute in association with Southwestern Medical School. He is licensed in Texas, Puerto Rico, and New York. In addition, Dr. Rodriguez is certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery and the American Board of Spine Surgery.

He has an academic appointment as a clinical instructor at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Hermann Hospital.

Dr. Rodriguez's professional memberships include the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, the North American Spine Society, the Harris County Medical Society, the Houston Orthopedic Society, the Texas Spine Society, the American Academy of Disability Evaluating Physicians, the Puerto Rico Medical Association and the Queens Medical Society.
